Back to School with Essential Oils

Back to School with Essential Oils

Back to school is an exciting time of year! Teachers are working hard to make their classrooms an inviting, creative space. Students are stirring with the excitement of meeting friends and learning new things. And parents are prepping the home in anticipation of a new, healthy routine.

To prepare everyone for an A+ experience that very first day, use essential oils as part of your home or classroom daily routine.

Teachers

You’ve poured your heart and soul into creatively planning the best ways to reach your students and teach the material. Still, you may have a secret weapon at your disposal sure to increase attention (and retention): diffusing essential oils.

For a classroom, our Menthol Crystals can be a multi-purpose powerhouse. These all-natural crystals are colorless and clear and are a natural by-product of steam-distilled peppermint essential oil.

Peppermint is one of the top essential oils known to improve focus and concentration. The scent is an invigorating one that will stimulate the young minds in your classroom, allowing them a chance to better focus on and retain the day’s lesson.

An added bonus of our Menthol Crystals: they can be used to deodorize your room! You can easily freshen the air after the students return from an extra active recess or P.E. class.

Parents

Back to school brings new friends, new things to learn, and, unfortunately, new germs! While you’re gearing up for the routine of back to school, make sure you’re giving your student (and your home!) the best possible immunity boost.

With just some basic ingredients like vinegar, baking soda, and, of course, your favorite essential oil, you can make your own natural, all-purpose cleaners very easily. (Eucalyptus, Tea Tree, and Lemon are some of our favorite oils for cleaning.) With our recipes, you can quickly clean your windows, toilets, and countertops to keep a germ-free house despite your busy schedule.

Using essential oils in your cleaning can help keep germs at bay and break down grease and grime. An added benefit is the lovely scent that these plant-based oils release throughout your home.

Students

With the summer behind you, it’s now time to dive in and do your best work — whether that’s in the classroom or on the sports field. You’ll be studying hard, pushing your body, and finding rest when you can. For many students, essential oils can be your go-to tool for being your best.

To prepare for your day, choose something with a citrus twist in the mornings. Orange, grapefruit, lemon, and lime are energizing scents that will improve your ability to focus. Whether your day starts with a history quiz or a group assignment, you can walk into the classroom ready to master the material.

After a hard practice, your muscles will benefit from the cooling relief of Peppermint. Our Mint-Infused Pure Eucalyptus ShowerMist will transform your basic shower into a spa-like steam room and give your muscles the rest they need. After running a hot shower, simply spritz a few sprays of the ShowerMist into the steam and away from the face. Younger students can feel lighter effects by spraying the edge of their tub while soaking. If you need added relief for those sore muscles, try our recipe here for a homemade muscle rub.

Whether you’re a teacher, parent, or student, essential oils can be one of the most “essential” back to school items on your list. Which one of these ideas will you try this school year? Let us know in the comments!

School’s Back In Session! Boost Everyone’s Immune System Now!

School’s Back In Session! Boost Everyone’s Immune System Now!

School is back in session, germs are everywhere and you need to keep your family protected! Colds follow the germs and no one wants to miss a school day or work day. So be sure to be on top of it all and prevent it from taking over your life, energy and ability to do what needs to be done.

Boosting our immune systems isn’t hard. Just use these tips!

Reduce Sugar

I know it’s hard, but sugar is one of the top ways to compromise your immune system. It’s like a lowering of your defenses and welcoming the attack. So when the sweet tooth hits, reach for alternative sweeteners and save your health!

Healthy Eating

Staying away from sugar isn’t the only thing you can do on the food front. The following foods are extremely beneficial for your overall health and strength of your immune system. Be sure to get a balanced amount of each.

  • Fermented foods such as kefir, kimchee, miso, pickles, sauerkraut, etc.
  • Raw, organic eggs from free-ranging chickens
  • Coconuts and coconut oil
  • Locally grown fruits and vegetables
  • Mushrooms, especially Reishi, Shiitake, and Maitake, which contain beta glucans (which have immune-enhancing properties)
  • Garlic, a potent antimicrobial that kills bacteria, viruses AND fungi
  • Herbs and spices with high ORAC scores: Turmeric, oregano, cinnamon, cloves

School Lunches

This is an opportunity to capitalize on! Make sure the kids have the right kind of nutrient packed foods needed to fuel and protect their bodies during the day! Chopped veggies to dip in hummus, sauteed vegetables and brown rice with protein is a great energizing lunch, both for the mind and immune system.

Encourage Water Drinking

Keeping hydrated allows the body to both function efficiently and to flush toxins and bacteria from your system. Water is essential for the optimal function of every system in your body. Keeping kids hydrated isn’t always easy when they’re at school. Send them with water bottles and require them to drink a glass of water before each meal to get into good habits at home. Without enough water, a flower wilts. Our minds and bodies are the same.

Steam Detox

The body loves a chance to release stored toxins in the skin and other organs. For adults, either create a good steaming shower and add our Pure Eucalyptus Oil ShowerMist to the mix or do the same in a quality sauna or steam room.  This will also fight bronchial infections, respiratory struggles, growing pains, improve circulation and alleviate pain from fibromyalgia and arthritis. For children, run a bath for them with just one spray onto the tub walls for the same yet lighter effect.

Get Enough Sleep

Our bodies need time to recover, heal and grow. If there seems to be more homework than time, reevaluate time management and create a more healthy schedule. Waking earlier is better than going to bed later as well. To get the most out of sleep, you need more REM time. To get this, limit eating to no later than 2 hours before bed, unless it’s a protein based, no starch, no sugar snack. Stay away from media, computers and phones at least an hour before bed.

At Eurospa Aromatics, we are committed to your health and the health of the world around you. Please take close care of your immune system this season and talk to us about our other products available for personal and spa use!

6 Easy Back to School Immune Boosting Tips

School is about to be back in session, and it’s important that your family’s immune system is prepared for it. And school is about learning, not spending your days wasting away and nursing a cold. Germs are inevitable, but you can do your best to fight them. Here’s how:

Back to School Immune Boosting Tips

Magnesium

Americans are chronically low in magnesium. The signs are everywhere with all of the road rage, abuse, high blood pressure, and stress that people live with on a daily basis. It’s most well known as the calming nutrient because of its ability to relax muscles, help us sleep, regulate hormones, relax blood vessels, and relieve depression. Aren’t you calmer just reading about it? Magnesium moves dietary calcium into the bones, decalcifies arteries, helps prevent blood clotting, and improves mental disorders like anxiety, hyperactivity, and depression. This helps your immune system function properly, get better sleep, decreases growing pains, and increases focus at school.

Healthy Eating

The following foods are extremely beneficial for your overall health and strength of your immune system. Be sure to get a balanced amount of each:

  • Fermented foods such as kefir, kimchee, miso, pickles, sauerkraut, etc.
  • Raw, organic eggs from free-ranging chickens
  • Coconuts and coconut oil
  • Locally grown fruits and vegetables
  • Mushrooms, especially Reishi, Shiitake, and Maitake, which contain beta glucans (which have immune-enhancing properties)
  • Garlic, a potent antimicrobial that kills bacteria, viruses, and fungi
  • Herbs and spices with high ORAC scores: Turmeric, oregano, cinnamon, cloves

Send nutritious snacks to school with your children. Chopped veggies to dip in hummus, sauteed vegetables, and brown rice with protein is a great energizing lunch, both for the mind and immune system.

Stay Hydrated

Keeping hydrated allows the body to both function efficiently and flush toxins and bacteria from your system. Water is essential for the optimal function of every system in your body. Keeping kids hydrated isn’t always easy when they’re at school. Send them with water bottles and require them to drink a glass of water before each meal to get into good habits at home. Without enough water, a flower wilts. Our minds and bodies are the same.

Steam

The body loves a chance to release stored toxins in the skin and other organs. For adults, either create a good steaming shower and add our Eucalyptus Oil ShowerMist to the mix or do the same in a quality sauna or steam room. This will also fight bronchial infections, respiratory struggles, growing pains, improve circulation, and alleviate pain from fibromyalgia and arthritis. For children, run a bath for them with just one spray onto the tub walls for the same, yet lighter effect.

Tea

Encourage tea drinking at all ages. Choose herbal teas and tonics. Dandelion with a little nut milk and honey not only tastes delicious but detoxes the liver (a key immune system player). Chamomile and lavender are great at night before bed. Your options are open.

Sleep

Homework calls, but sleep should call louder. The body needs time to recoup. If there seems to be more homework than time, reevaluate time management and create a more healthy schedule. Waking earlier is better than going to bed later as well. To get the most out of sleep, you need more REM time. To get this, limit eating to no later than 2 hours before bed unless it’s a protein-based, no starch, no sugar snack. Stay away from media, computers, and phones at least an hour before bed.

Surprisingly Easy, Fast and Natural Ways to Beat Head Lice!

Surprisingly Easy, Fast and Natural Ways to Beat Head Lice!

Surprisingly Easy, Fast and Natural Ways to Beat Head Lice!Lice Happens, but it’s not something anyone looks forward to. You need a dependable non-toxic way to Keep in mind that it’s impossible to completely eradicate head lice from existence because they learn to adapt to their environment. So accepting they exist and are likely to be found in your child’s hair at some point of their schooling is going to be less stressful for everyone. With a good management plan, you’ll be much better off when it happens.
Here are some surprisingly easy, fast and natural ways to beat head lice:
1. If your child has long hair, tie it up for school every day (plaits or braids are great) and if you like, spray their hair with hairspray. Many mothers swear by hairspray – after you’ve tied up your child’s hair, keeping it under control with hairspray seems to help.
2. For long or short hair, encourage wearing a hat to protect their hair from coming into contact with others.
3. You can buy (or make your own) head lice resister sprays which you can spray into their hair and inside their hats. Most of the sprays have essential oils; usually tea tree, eucalyptus, geranium and lavender – which lice don’t like. Its an effective repellant. Even try our eucalyptus oil spray for your hats, hair and home!
4. Make absolutely sure that you follow any treatment program as per the instructions. No treatment exists that kills both the head lice AND the eggs in one go. Repeating a treatment is always needed because the live lice die, but the eggs in your child’s hair will hatch soon after, so you need to make sure you get them out before they are old enough to reproduce – around 7-10 days is a good time to repeat a treatment.
4. Use tea tree shampoo and/or conditioner for washing your children’s hair. Check out the different options available which vary in price, as well as the amounts of oils in each product. You may be able to find a better range at your pharmacy or variety store.
5. Make sure you check yourself and your family for head lice. Kids love to cuddle, so you may have transmitted head lice between you before you realized head lice was around. The last thing you want is to have your children head lice free, but then someone else passes it back to them. Many mothers have found that they can keep lice away effectively by coloring, straightening or using other products on their hair; the heat and products kill the lice and their eggs.
6. Once you suspect lice, evenly distribute coconut or olive oil to your child’s hair and then pull it back in a pony tail.  The lice and eggs find it difficult to stick to the hair shaft and are unlikely to stick around.

Fight Back-to-School Germs With This Home Remedy List

Fight Back-to-School Germs With This Home Remedy List

Fight Back to School Germs With This Home Remedy ListIt’s back-to-school time and for most parents, that means germs, colds and sick days!  It doesn’t have to
be that way though.  In addition to time tested habits like hand washing and covering your coughs and sneezes, we have some simple tricks to share with you on how to fight back-to-school germs with this easy home remedy list. We know you are too busy to be dragged down by sickness, so be sure to heed these helpful tips!

Vitamin D.
If your child isn’t getting enough of this vitamin through food sources, you can consider any number of vitamin D3 supplements which contribute to bone health by creating optimum conditions for bone formation, in addition to supporting proper function of the immune and nervous systems.* For younger children, liquid D is a great option as it can be dropped right on the tongue or mixed in with foods or beverages.
Aloe Vera
The aloe vera plant contains over 200 biologically active components, and has been used for centuries in folk natural medicine and as a product ingredient. Its constituents are used in many forms, including it’s juice which enhances healthy immune function, digestion and gums. It’s incredibly detoxifying but the flavor can be strong to some. If adding it to food, you may want to try an already strong flavor combination like apple, mango and banana.
In topical form, it’s often used for soothing skin and is even a common  ingredient in hand sanitizers. Having it on hand means that, in addition to using it on its own, you can make your own customized version.
Lavender oil
Essential oils not only scent your hand sanitizers, but also add increased amounts of antibacterial properties! One of the most versatile plant essential oils, lavender’s name is derived from the Latin word “lavera,” which means to wash. It’s both gentle and effective in balancing the skin, and has a soothing and calming effect. You need only add a tiny amount to your recipe.
Eucalyptus Oil
Eucalyptus oil is also a great option. Steam distilled from the leaves of the Eucalyptus plant, this oil is known for its cooling, soothing effects. As well, it’s anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory, not only killing germs but can be used symptomatically as well.  Use this shower mist both to clean surfaces of germs and bacteria and in the shower to open bronchial passages and clear the sinuses!
Peppermint Oil
Peppermint, like Eucalyptus, contains menthol and menthone, as well as rosmarinic acid and flavonoids such as hesperidin and luteolin. Again, a little essential oil goes a long way. Steam distill this or make a tea.  The effects are cooling, soothing and will help those stuffy noses feel much lighter and clearer!
