QUICK TIPS for BEATING the COLD SEASON!

QUICK TIPS for BEATING the COLD SEASON!

You may have noticed the many colds and flu’s migrating around the world this winter.  Maybe you have had the ‘pleasure’ of experiencing it yourself?  Or maybe you have simply been one of the lucky parents that have missed work due to the havoc these menaces have caused in schools.

Whatever the case,  I think we all agree that it’s time we had some simple tools to keep these viruses at bay.

Here are a few quick tips for beating the cold season this winter:

1.  In lower temperatures, wear a coat and scarf.  I have so often seen people wandering around town like it’s sunny outside while their exposed arms are covered in goose bumps proving otherwise.  A cold body is a compromised body.  If the body is busy working overtime to keep your body warm, your immune system is going to have to settle with the left over energy to fight off these unwanted, contagious visitors.   Do yourself (and your kids) a favor and bundle up appropriately.  Adults?  Hats, scarves and coats are not your enemy.  And if you require your kids to wear them as well, you’re not the enemy either; you are the protector.  You can do it.  I believe in you.
2.  Keep your insides warm too!  When we eat ice creams and smoothies in the winter, we chill our insides causing the same (if not worse) weakening of our immune systems as when we under dress for the weather.  My solution?  Besides chilling out on your cold food consumption?  I call it, the fire starter tea.   It’s quite simple, so get a pen and paper and keep this one visible in the kitchen.  For one serving, simply squeeze ½ a lemon into your cup and add hot water.   Then add about 1tsp (more or less) of cayenne pepper to the mix.  Sweeten with honey or stevia and you’ll be on your way.  Of course, adjust to taste.  I personally prefer much more cayenne and the fire it starts inside me.  But you just play around and see what works best for you.  Lemons are high in Vitamin C and the cayenne is good for circulation, inflammation, congestion, weight loss and so much more.  It’s a win win!
3.  Clean out the bad to make room for the good!  I’m not talking about an all out body cleanse; though you should go for it if you feel so inclined.  Naturally, one of my favorite natural winter immune boosters is eucalyptus oil!  The benefits?
·       Antibacterial Properties – great for respiratory infections!
·       Pain Relief – proven to have analgesic properties
·       Stimulates Immune System Response to common conditions like:  Arthritis, skin problems, congestion,  acne, diabetes, flu, fevers, ulcers and more!
The best way to activate the Eucalyptus is through steam therapy treatment.  Have you noticed how much easier it is to breath once you step into a hot steaming shower?  Your lungs and sinus feel free to expand.  Well, add to that the oils of the eucalyptus joining that steam as it opens up your tightened bronchial passages while penetrating and clearing out the infection causing the problem.  To enjoy a therapeutic steam, just add a few drops of eucalyptus oil to a saucepan of simmering water on the stove. You can also use a humidifier — some actually provide a compartment for essential oils. If you don’t have an oil diffuser but would like to disinfect the air, no need to even dilute the oil, just aim and spray!  My personal favorite is to use it in the shower, steam rooms or in a spa!

The result is ridiculously effective, cost efficient and safe for both your body and the environment.  The benefits of aromatherapy as a health investment and even the perfect gift, makes this an easy and relaxing tip to apply to everyone’s weekly winter routine!

A healthy and luxurious winter is available for all at Eurospa Aromatics whether you are a large spa or want to buy independently for personal use in your own home or as a gift.

So let’s recap a moment, shall we?  The top 3 ways you can beat the cold season?
·       Dress for warmth.   (not just success 😉 )
·       Light your inner fire
·       Eucalyptus Steam Therapy

Take charge of your health this season.  Get a bottle for yourself or even as a gift, right here.
Take a deep breath. Love your body and practice good health now.

The Best Spas Seem to Have One Thing in Common – A Eucalyptus Steam Room

In our reviews of various spa’s around the world, the Waihua Spa at the Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua, is the best so far if you base your ratings on:  number of online reviews by customers, ratings by online reviewers, descriptions of the experience by these same reviewers, or reviews by professionals.  With almost 100 reviews to read through the overall ranking is close to a full 5 stars out of 5.

We would like to believe that the eucalyptus steam room is what pushed them to these great heights, but are humble enough to concede that this was just one frequently mentioned aspect of the attention to detail that is apparent throughout the spa.  Here are a few of the reviews that we selected as a sample of the impressions.

Please note that if you would enjoy having all the benefits of eucaplytus oil in your home steam room or even in your shower, we now offer a home sized shower mist spray.  See it here.

Waihua Spa, Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua

At this gorgeous 17,500-square-foot spa, you enter a blissful maze where floor-to-ceiling riverbed stones lead to serene treatment rooms, couples’ hales (cabanas), and a rain forest-like grotto with a Jacuzzi, dry cedar sauna, and eucalyptus steam rooms. Hang out in the co-ed waiting area, where sliding-glass doors open to a whirlpool overlooking a taro patch garden. Exfoliate any rough spots with a pineapple-papaya or coffee scrub; then wash off in a private outdoor shower garden before indulging in a lomilomi massage (traditional Hawaiian massage involving powerful strokes down the length of the body). High-end beauty treatments include advanced oxygen technology to tighten and nourish mature skin. The on-site shop has a great selection of local beauty products and jewelry.

We did a spa service during our stay at the Ritz and so glad we did. The couple massage was Perfect and there were many amenities to use afterwards-highly recommend the eucalyptus steam room. Once you have a service there you have access to these amenities for the entire day. Able to come back after a lunch or nap! Very relaxing.

The co-ed section has a sitting room and outdoor hot tub. The female only (and male I presume) are so relaxing. The whirpool was in this stone, rock type room which made it so soothing. Eucalyptus steam room, dry sauna, relaxation room with couches, showers, and all the tea and cucumber water you can drink.

I am so picky about massages, and this masseuse named Luis gave me the best massage I have had in years, so good, that I booked another massage the next day. if you want DEEP tissue massage someone who will really get down into your back and shoulders then ask for Luis. also, their steam room and sauna area is amazing, and very exotic feeling with an entire rock wall and rock jacuzzi. Spa was amazing, pricy as you would expect from the Ritz but worth the extra penny! My massage was excellent, great staff everywhere. Also, there a lovely grotto area where you can use the whirlpool tub, sauna, relaxation room with hot tea (option to order food as well), and eucalyptus steam room. This is free, included with every spa treatment and you can use it anytime on the day of your appt. You can even leave and come back again later! Nice bonus 🙂

From Yelp

4/1/2013 4 photos 3 check-ins here The number one perk for staying at the Kapalua Villas is the use of the spa facility. I don’t think I can write something that hasn’t already been mentioned. It is wonderful! Great staff, quiet setting, showers, lockers, razors, shampoo, etc. Nice touches like pineapple water to keep you in that state of bliss. Another review I’m fearful of writing since this place was quiet with no one around but staff.

The pool and hot tub are fantastic! The steam room is scented with eucalyptus, and felt all my stress fade away. I’m kicking myself that we didn’t just show up here after we checked in, we didn’t look into it until a few days into our holiday.

The next time I visit, I will get a villa close enough so I can stumble out of bed and spend every day there.

Truly as good as it gets: Bo’s therapeutic massage wasn’t just amazing, but he helped spot a muscle problem in my shoulder that Tom in the fitness center worked on (and has apparently cured), and then gave me resources to help…from home! The eucalyptus steam room was the best I’ve EVER experienced (3 times!), plus the amazing variety of water amenities made this one of the most relaxing – and restorative – days of my life.

No, seriously.  This place has just about everything I could want.  I can sleep on the comfy lounge-beds by the pool, use the gorgeous shower areas, they have a yummy menu, and I can work out in the state of the art gym.  I was blown away by this gorgeous sanctuary (in the middle of the already gorgeous Kapalua, of course). We spent many hours here and I totally blissed out.

I also took advantage of the amazing gym facilities on my own.  Wow- the weight machines were whisper-quiet and they had the newest cardio equipment, each unit with its own TV monitor and USB hookup for your iPod/iPhone.  Forgot your own earphones?  Don’t worry, they’ve got you; grab a pair at the front, then just drop them in the “Used Headphones” basket after your workout.  They had one machine called “the Wave” which had a funky, cross country skiing motion (i think?).  I had never seen one before, but it was neat.  They also offer complimentary personal training lessons on using their new Kinesis equipment.  AND you work out while looking at views of the ocean or one of their own waterfall pools.  Gym- Excellent, A+.

Following my workouts, I would use the shower facilities.  Along with fancy digital combination locks, each locker has a plush robe and a pair of those Hawaiian brown sandals.  The restrooms/showers are fully equipped for just about anything you need.  They have disposable razors; yummy smelling shampoo, conditioner, and body wash; combs, brushes, and hair dryers in the vanity area; and extras like mouthwash, toothbrush/toothpaste sets, unisex deodorant, and body lotion to finish you off.  I loved it!

Now for the really indulgent treats.  All over the spa, there were glass containers dispensing pineapple-infused water, ice cold.  Ahhh.  Step out into the pool area, and you will find pumps of sunscreen, menus for poolside dining, and magazines to entertain you.  I worked on my tan on the lounges, then cooled off in the beautiful infinity pool.

Just inside the separated women’s and men’s facilities, you will also find the Serenity areas.  Here, you have to try the eucalyptus sea salt infused steam room.  Breathe deep and relax on the cool tiles.  Or go next door and use the traditional sauna.  Be sure to grab a cold washcloth from the pedestal outside to cool your face; I loved that the washcloths sit on an ice block shaped like the Kapalua butterfly logo (see photo).  I liked to follow all of that with a quick dash through the rainfall area, then jump into the waterfall hot tub.  Heaven.

Out of courtesy to other spa patrons, I didn’t get as many photos as I would have liked, but trust me- the place is spectacular.  The staff are all very helpful and friendly, so don’t be afraid to ask questions, and tip them for their great service.  Most importantly, enjoy, relax, and live “Aloha”.

Review of Kelly’s Spa, Mission Inn, Riverside California – Everyone Loves the Eucalyptus Steam Room

Review of Kelly’s Spa, Mission Inn, Riverside California – Everyone Loves the Eucalyptus Steam Room

Kelly’s Spa gets very high marks from the reviewers.  Overall, the spa was getting a minimum average of 4 stars out of 5, and commonly 4.5 stars.  Some of the negatives seemed to be related to Hotel staff issues, rather than to the Spa itself.

The most notable part of my review of the reviews was how often the eucalyptus steam room was mentioned.  There is no doubt that the combination of steam and eucalyptus is amazing for relaxation, muscle relief, and wellness, so it continues to surprise me that some gyms, hotels, and spas who have steam rooms fail to go to the tiny extra expense of including an automatic injection system for eucalyptus oil into the steam room.

Here are a few of the reviews that we picked up from various review sites.

Ah Kelly’s… Where the eucalyptuses steam soothes the soul as well as the skin, the champagne is always bubbling , and the staff treats you like royalty. Not to mention pool access, decent lockers, calming lounges, and proper waxes.

Yes, I am most definitely a fan.

why does this place have to be so far away from beverly hills??

I have been to at least 15 spas out west here and this place still gets my vote for most loved spa (ok, spa at the four seasons on doheny is amazing and does a great pedicure).  I love that they could care less if you’re being healthy or are LA skinny and will stuff you full of champagne and chocolates and don’t care if you have some margaritas by the pool before or after your treatments.  LOVE the eucalyptus steam room.

Quiet and Relaxing environment secluded away from the hustle and bustle of the busy hotel! Love the eucalyptus steam room and locker area. The relaxation room is very peaceful with fresh fruits and Fiji water.

Humans are funny creatures.  We are always in a mad search for the new method, the new cure, the new and better approach.  Many of us spend thousands of dollars on products that promise us relief from the things that annoy us, and more thousands on methods to improve the things we find less than perfect about ourselves.

Sometimes the best products and approaches are inexpensive and obvious.  Sometimes they are centuries old.  Ask yourself, would people keep doing something for centuries if it didn’t work?

Steam is pretty cheap.  It has been used for centuries to open pores, reduce stress, moisten the nose and throat, and just plain feel good.  Steam baths were used in Russia, Turkey, Mexico, and Northern Europe hundreds of years ago through today.  The most luxurious spas in the world offer steam baths as the ultimate in pampered living.  Your neighbors up on the hill have a steam bath in their master suite.  Inexpensive steam is irnonically evidence of wealth and health.

You can give yourself a facial steam bath with a sink and a towel covering your head to keep the steam enclosed.  You can get a bit fancier and spend anywhere from $20 to $200 on a home facial sauna depending on the features.  Or you can spend $700 to $1500 to outfit your current shower or bathtub with a steam unit.  For as little as $1500, you can install a complete, enclosed steam unit in your home.

Now, if you are Kate Moss, you are going to add another ancient product to the steam.  Eucalyptus Oil will multiply the results of your steam facial many times over.  According to http://thehappyskindiary.com, Kate Moss uses a eucalyptus laced steam bath the next morning after any occasion where she was unable to get a proper cleansing the night before, or when she need a deep cleansing.

Kate would be tapping into ancient wisdom regarding the use of eucalyptus oil as a cleansing agent.  But Eucalyptus Oil also provides additional health benefits to the respiratory and olfactory systems.  And, of course, eucalyptus has been used for centuries in steam rooms and saunas.  Today, the most luxurious spas in the world use this essential oil to improve the experience and wellness of their guests.

Now you can live large like Kate Moss or other jet setters.  100% Pure Eucalyptus Oil, then kind that is used in the very best steam rooms, is now available for home use.  You can now enjoy to luxury of eucalyptus oil in a regular shower.  Buy our 8 ounce spray bottle of 100% pure pharmaceutical grade eucalyptus oil  at Amazon.com for you home shower or steam room.

Oh My! The Spa Montage in Laguna Beach – Five Star Elegance

Oh My! The Spa Montage in Laguna Beach – Five Star Elegance

The Montage Is A Fodor “Choice” and the Spa Montage Gets 5 Stars Almost Everywhere

If you have to ask, you can’t afford it.  However if you can afford it, every review seems to suggest you should give it a go.  Here is a charming review from Fodor’s:

Laguna’s connection to the Californian plein air artists is mined for inspiration at this head-turning, lavish hotel. The Montage Laguna Beach uses the local Craftsman style as a touchstone. Shingled buildings ease down a bluff to a sandy cove; inside, works by contemporary and early-20th-century California artists snare your attention. Guest rooms balance ease and refinement; all have ocean views and amenities such as CD/DVD players and extra-deep tubs. Of the restaurants, Studio is the fanciest, with more sweeping Pacific views and a refined contemporary menu. At the 20,000-square-foot oceanfront spa and fitness center, you can indulge in a sea-salt scrub, take a yoga class, or hit the lap pool.

Check out the other reviews and you’ll see consistent 4 and mostly 5 star grades from consumers and expert reviewers alike.   One reviewer on TripAdvisor.com put it this way:

When staying at the Montage laguna Beach, I was treated to a 60 minute hot/cold stone massage. It was fabulous! The massage therapist actually used smooth, round, hot rocks coated in scented oil to massage my body!! After the massage was nearly over, she used cool/cold sm. round smooth stones around my face, eyes, forehead for a special final treat!! VERY relaxing. The indoor Spa pool is beautiful and relaxing. The sitting area quiet and luxurious. (teas, cucumber & lemon water, coffee all complementary of course) chilled cucumbers and chilled towels for your face and eyes, of course!! Best yet, when you book a treatment at the spa, you are entitled to use the spa indoor pool, steam room, sauna, and huge outdoor lap pool with ocean view (adults only) for the entire day with food & beverage service!!! Love this spa!!
